Full Job Description

We are an established therapist owned pediatric practice with a new location in Washington, DC and we are looking for a committed and patient-focused Occupational Therapist to join our team! You will provide effective and client-centered services that will enable children and their families to confidently and independently carry out everyday tasks and activities. The successful candidate will have a holistic perspective and will be able to adapt the environment to fit the person. We have a clinic downtown in Penn Quarter and also provide community-based therapy within the child’s home, childcare setting, or wherever the child spends most of their time. We work with children with various diagnoses and span an age range from 2 months – 18 years.

There is an established caseload awaiting and can be tailored to be either a full time or part time position.

Responsibilities:

  • Select and adapt the appropriate per case occupational therapy treatment model, method and approach to direct the process of interventions
  • Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL)
  • Teach children and parents new ways of approaching tasks and educate them on how to break down activities into achievable components
  • Assess child’s home and other environments and advice on alterations consistent with their needs and capabilities
  • Recommend adaptive equipment and train in its use
  • Observe, note, and report on progress of long and short term treatment goals
  • Collect data and document processes followed
  • Collaboration with physical therapists, speech therapists, and educators

Skills:

  • Proven working experience as a pediatric occupational therapist (1 year preferred)
  • Excellent knowledge of principles and practices of occupational therapy
  • Familiarity with evaluation tools ( e.g. PDMS-2, SPM, Beery, etc)
  • Ability to manage children and families with different types of personalities
  • Current knowledge of treatment practices per discipline and drive to continually learn and grow in the profession
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Valid lisence to practice occupational therapy
  • BS degree or greater in occupational therapy

Preferred candidate will have:

  • Active occupational therapy license
  • At least 1 year of pediatric experience preferred
